Jesus who is the greatest

His disciples could not understand that Jesus would have to die vv. And as we see in verses 33—35, prior to the cross, they did not understand what it means to be truly great. We see a stark contrast between verses 30—32 and verses 33— In verses 30—32, Jesus teaches that the path to greatness and glory for the Messiah runs through sufering and death.

Since "a disciple is not above his teacher" Matt. At least, it should have given the disciples an inkling that if the Savior cannot be revealed in all His majestic glory apart from suffering and death, they likewise cannot attain greatness apart from lowliness and humiliation. But that is not what we see in today's passage. Instead, we find the disciples arguing over which one of them will be greatest, jockeying for the first position in Christ's kingdom Mark — In so doing, they were not acting much differently than their Jewish contemporaries.

Historical evidence shows that first-century rabbis, the Dead Sea Scrolls community, and others debated who would sit closest to God's throne in heaven and many other such things. Jesus' response and His definition of greatness turn much of the first-century debate on its head. Notice in Mark that He does not dismiss greatness as something that should not be desired.

Because of His holiness vs. Because of His hope vs. Because of His humility vs. Because of His honesty vs. Because of the happiness only He can give vs. And Jesus was still in the city preaching before a crowd of people in the Temple. Part of the people believed in the Lord, but Jesus was also preaching to Jewish rulers who hated the Lord. But Jesus was there, preaching to them all, and warning the unbelievers that they were lost without Him. This Old Testament hero of the faith lived 2, years before Jesus was born.

And the Bible calls Abraham "the Friend of God" because by faith, he left his home and followed the Lord to the land that would eventually become Israel. Now the Lord had said to Abram: "Get out of your country, from your family and from your father's house, to a land that I will show you.

I will make you a great nation; I will bless you and make your name great; and you shall be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you, and I will curse him who curses you; and in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed. Jesus is that promised Messiah, the Christ, the only possible Savior of the world. It started in vs. They answered Him, "We are Abraham's descendants, and have never been in bondage to anyone.

How can you say, 'You will be made free'? I speak what I have seen with My Father, and you do what you have seen with your father. They answered and said to Him, "Abraham is our father. But now you seek to kill Me, a Man who has told you the truth which I heard from God.

Abraham did not do this. You do the deeds of your father. Abraham is dead, and the prophets; and You say, 'If anyone keeps My word he shall never taste death. Are You greater than our father Abraham, who is dead? And the prophets are dead. Whom do You make Yourself out to be? John Phillips gave this brief summary of why Abraham was a great believer:. He turned his back on his old way of life and became a pilgrim and stranger on earth -- and a citizen of heaven.

He learned to trust and obey. His spiritual pilgrimage began with a great demand on Abraham's faith, that he give up his earthly father, and it climaxed with an even greater demand on his faith, that he give up his promised son, Isaac. Abraham staked everything on the dependability of God and the reliability of his word.

And Galatians 3 tells us that all Christians are spiritual descendants of Abraham. But as great as he was, Abraham was a dim candle compared to the shining sun of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Jesus is the greatest of all! And tonight's Scripture shows us why. We could only count on the most miserable existence.

But thank God, Jesus is infinitely good! That's why in vs. He dared them to take the entire Mosaic Law in all its commandments and test His life by its letter and spirit. He challenged them to take the prophets and writings as well, the whole Old Testament, and to lay that infallible plumb line alongside His life to see if they could detect the slightest deviation from the upright and the true.

Had He ever failed to do something He ought to have done? Had He ever behaved lustfully or spoken covetously? Could they find any sin in His public or private life? Jesus Christ is the spotless, sinless Lamb of God who came to die for our sins. God's Word reminds us of this truth in vs. He even wrote an introduction of Jesus. He said; It is my honor to introduce a man that needs no introduction.

His credits are too long to list. He has done the impossible time after time. He hails out of a manger in Bethlehem by way of Heaven. His mother is still headlining in the catholic church today. He fed hungry souls with two fish and five loaves of bread. He can walk on water and turn water into wine with no special effects and no camera tricks. He has a headshot on every church fan across the country.

Get on your feet, put your hands together And show your love for the Second Coming of the One and Only Now, not to take anything away from Mr. Harvey, but my Lord is so much more. Think about this; the Bible has 66 Books, about 1, chapters, and 31, verses.

And although researchers say there are only verses about Jesus, Christians know that the entire Bible is about Jesus.

Christians know that Jesus has always been. He was around in the beginning. Truthfully, verses 1 -5 are a mic drop. Christ was there in the beginning? Do you really believe that? He never took a psychology class but many call him Counselor.

The world has never had a greater Educator. And without stellar looks, Instagram, or Facebook, Christ has maintained an obscene number of followers; 2. Greatest of All Time now sounds like an understatement. You think Jesus is Jesus and God?
