The player with the least number of pips on the dominoes still held is declared the winner. If there are no more tiles left in the boneyard, that player must pass. When placing tiles on the chain, doubles are placed crosswise so that the end of the chain touches the side of the double.
If a tile is played that is not a double, the matching end of the tile is placed adjacent to the end of the chain to which it matches, with the domino placed in a lengthwise fashion. Scoring When summing the ends of the chain, a blank counts as zero points.
Any double which is exposed sideways on the end of the chain is scored counting both ends of the domino. For example, if one end of the chain has a double four and the other end has a two, the score is eight 8 for the double four and two 2 for the two giving a total of ten 10 points.
Once the hand is over, the dominoes held by the other players are totalled and rounded off to the nearest multiple of five 5. This total is added to the winning player or team's match score. If the hand was blocked or jammed, the total does not include the number of points held by the jamming player.
If the number of points held by each player is the same, the hand is declared a tie and no extra points are added to any player's score. If all scores are less than agreed-upon number of points for the game , the game continues by playing another hand.
Options and Defaults Who starts the 1st hand and how? By default, the highest double in the first hand is forced - whoever was dealt the highest double must start the 1st hand with it in the rare instance that nobody had any doubles, the highest bone starts. A domino table can also be created with an option of Random start when 'no 1st hand forced double' default option is unchecked.
In this case, the server determines randomly which play er will start. If this option is in force, then the player is free to chose what bone to start with. Who starts the new hand? Winner of the previous hand? By default, the winner of the hand starts the new hand.
A domino table can also be created with a non-default option 'rotated start'. With 'rotated start' non-default option, the starter of the next hand also called 'first down' alternates every hand. Some people also play that you can play all of your doubles on one turn. A- The biggest dispute is whether if you only have one tile left and it's a double whether you can go out. According to Giselle, you must answer any double. Therefore if you play a double as a last time, you must draw if you can't answer it.
So it's strategic to keep the double and it's matching tile in your hand. You won't be calling "uno" or tapping and players will be caught with more points. A- We recommend a set that has the hub, trains and case. Start out with a lower priced set to get started.
Q - Why do I need racks for dominoes? A - Dominoes can tip easily when you reach across the table. Plus, it's much easier to see your tiles and organize them. Q -Why do I need double 15s vs double 12s? A - If you play with 8 or more players, double 15s allow you to not reduce the number of tiles you select on the opening hand.
The rules state you reduce the number based on the number of players. Additionally, other domino games besides Mexican Train can be played with double 15s?
Q - Why would Cardinal brand dominoes change their colors from year to year? We don't know, we loved the old color scheme too. Q -We think the colors particularly the 6s and 9s are too similiar in color, what do you suggest?
A- Add a drop of red nail polish or paint to the inside of the circle on the 6,so you can easily tell it apart Q - Why aren't any domino sets made in the USA?
A -It's all about cost. Unfortunately, we can't make the sets for the same costs in the USA. We make the racks and score pads in the USA. A- Our customers have suggested the following domino cleaning remedies:.
Interactive Hub Questions. When do I push the button for the train noise on the hub? You push the hub to announce that you are starting a free-standing Mexican train. You can also blow the train whistle to announce it. When do I push the button for the chicken sound? You push the button for the chicken sound when you start a double.
The double forces players to answer it, so you need to announce it. One more point - You do not have to listen to the train or chickenfoot noise for the whole sound cycle, a quick flip of the switch, turns it off. Q- What are dominos made of? Dominoes are made of Urea. Urea is a compound of plastic material and is amino-plastic without any odor. What are spinners on Dominoes? How did Spinners in Dominoes Originate? Spinners a small pin in the center of a domino were actually designed to hold the two domino materials often ebony and ivory , together.
It attached the white ivory face to the dark ebony side of the domino. This configuration of dominoes is called the layout, string, or line of play. In order to prevent tiles from falling off the table when the line of play extends too far, dominoes may be played in any direction. Regardless of the pattern of the line of play, the open end of the last domino played remains the same.
Dominoes are joined to the line of play in two ways: 1 with the line of play, lengthwise, the dominoes played end to end; or, 2 across the line of play, crosswise, the dominoes played across the matching number. In most domino games, doubles, and only doubles, are played crosswise; singles are played lengthwise, and the next tile is added after each double played, if the double is not a spinner, must be lengthwise. Spinners A spinner is a double which can be played on all four sides.
Depending on the rules of the game being played, the double played as the lead is the only spinner of the game; or, every double played throughout the game is a spinner. If the double played is not a spinner, it may be played on only two sides. Scoring In some domino games, part of the score is obtained from the total number of pips at the ends of the line of play as the game progresses.
If only one domino has been played, both ends of that domino are ends of the line of play. Thus, if a tile is played, the count would be If two dominoes have been played, the count depends on whether both tiles are with the line of play or one tile is with and the other tile is across the line of play.
The matching halves of each of the two dominoes would be joined, end to end, with the open ends being 3 and 1.
The double tile, , would be played across the line of play, and both halves of the double would be considered ends of the line of play.
Given the last example, if a tile is now played on the , assuming it is not a spinner, the is no longer an end for the purpose of counting. See the example below. If the is not a spinner in this case, the is not an end.
In some domino games, a score is made only when the count of the ends of the line of play are a multiple of 5 or a multiple of 3, for example. Another scoring method used in many domino games is to take the losing players' total number of pips by counting the pips on the tiles left in their hands at the end of a hand or the game and then adding that number to the winner's score.
Here is a rule variation that players may agree to employ: When counting the pips on the tiles left in the losers' hands at the end of a hand or the game, count only one end of a double i. End of the Game Some domino games end once a certain number of hands have been played or a player or team makes the necessary points to win.
For many other domino games, the object of the game is to be the first player or team to dispose of all the dominoes in your hand.
These domino games end when a player has played all the dominoes in his hand before the other players and announces, "Domino. This is called a blocked game, and, in case the game is blocked and no one is able to make another play, the game would end. Too Many Tiles Are Drawn If a player draws more tiles for his hand than he is entitled to, it is called an overdraw.
Once an overdraw has been discovered, the player to the right of the overdrawn hand takes the extra dominoes from the overdrawn hand, without looking at them, and returns them to the stock.
The deck should then be reshuffled before anyone else draws his hand. Here is a rule variation that players may agree to employ: Expose the overdrawn tiles to all players before returning them to the stock and then reshuffling the deck. Not Enough Tiles Are Drawn If a player draws fewer tiles for his hand than he is entitled to, it is called an underdraw. Once an underdraw has been discovered, he draws the necessary tiles from the stock to complete his hand.
If a player misplays for example, joins a 2 to a 3 and it is discovered before the next player makes his play, he must restore the misplayed tile to his hand and play a correct tile. If a player misplays and no one notices until after the next play has been made, the wrong tile is considered played and cannot be replaced with the correct tile.
If a score is realized on the undiscovered misplay, the player is allowed to keep it. If it is not a misplay, once a tile is played and a player takes his hand off the tile, it may not be taken up by the player. If a player plays out of turn and it is discovered before the next player makes his play, he must recall his tile. If a player plays out of turn and it is not discovered before the next play, the misplay must stand. If a score is realized on the misplay, the player is allowed to keep it.
Types of Domino Games Nearly all of the most popular domino games fit into one of four categories. The four categories are: bidding games, blocking games, scoring games, and round games.
Bidding Games Bidding games are card-like games, played by two to four players. In these games, players bid their hands, the highest bidder names the suit, and the score is determined by the bid.
