I watched the last episode of Picard fine on my iPad, and then went to watch it on Apple TV with my wife and noticed the subtitles were missing.
We ended up watching it with English subtitles on. Very annoying. Have contacted Amazon support. If we all do that, hopefully Had the same issue. Watching shows where during the non-English dialogue there are no subtitles. This is on mobile both with and without English subtitles turned on. The subtitles would disappear during non-English even if I had turned on English subtitles. It was fixed by turning off subtitles for that section and then turning them back on once they switched back to English this worked for Treadstone and Man in the high Castle.
They appear at random maybe once at the beginning on an episode and then not for another 3. Please help! Am getting very frustrated with the amazon prime app on my Roku tv regarding this issue. Now multiple shows I cannot watch without forced subtitles in languages. Anna in Russian, John Ryan, man in high tower, etc etc. It is extremely frustrating. I can watch them fine on my tablet but not on my big roku tv screen. I have tried resetting, I have tried updating, tried deleting and reinstalling.
Tried everything mentioned and nothing. Please fix!!! I am stone deaf, so any film without subtitles is a waste of time for me. Why is this? If one can do another should, it costs about the same. Take adverts on TV, they even do subtitles on them, so what is the problem. On another subject. Again go to Netflix and it is very easy. Stop, forward, pause, rewind etc in Prime is a waste of time.
Same issue in Australia - no English subtitles on Timeless when other languages are spoken, it's really spoiling it for us. Amazon - please do something about this, I've tried everything and used multiple platforms with no luck.
I guess nobody from Amazon ever reviews these forums then Why would they when we're all still paying for Prime Shame on you Amazon Find the 4K version of the movie.
If you search for the movie name, two versions should come up. Not 'solved'. Paid for a streamed video tonight for the first time because I found a bunch of great American movies that said they had chinese subtitles. Wife is Chinese, I don't speak it, so we really want to share American movies with Chinese subtitles. Very disappointed to find that they lied. There are no Chinese subtitles that I could find on the first ten videos I checked.
I wish the listing didn't promise them in the big type. I'm from the UK watching prime through my Xbox. I've had this issue twice in the last few weeks. Subtitles work on my phone, not my FireTV 4k, I turned on second screen to at least see what is happening, subtitles on fire TV app started working, weird but maybe repeatable for someone else. We apologize for the trouble with the subtitles in Prime Video. The content and how it is released depends on the content owners and their licensing.
However, your input is valuable to us as we're always striving to improve our service. We also wanted to add this helpful resource with information on how to enable Prime Video Subtitles. And, How to troubleshoot issue while streaming Prime Video.
We look forward to hearing from you, and have a great day! This does not answer the original post. The issue is with non-native languages within the film. Please delete or update this answer. Hi Jen! I am watching on a Firestick, sometimes it works, other times there is a black "box" where the forced subtitles should be, but no words. If I restart the Firestick is sometimes fixes the problem. Once your program begins, hit pause.
Then toggle up, just above the picture cels and there will be. CC button. Good luck. Subtitles only show the non-english dialog.
Thank you for contributing to this thread. Your input is very helpful! I was searching for a solution to this exact problem and I may have found it:.
Totally appreciate you sharing this helpful information with everyone. I found when I turn on regular english subtitles then turn them off the subtitles appear. Thanks for sharing this tip! I tried texting with Amazon about the problem, but I kept getting, "Did you try checking the CC on your device? I found a work around if the non native language subtitles do not auto show.
While watching the show in prime app go to options and turn the regular subtitles on, once the subtitles are showing you can now tune them off. The non native language subtitles should continue to come up. Hope this work around helps until Amazon can work out a fix. Same issue here. Amazon subtitles do not work for languages within the film version of stargate. So there is no way to only get subtitles for the foreign dialogue? You have to manually turn closed captions on and off every time someone speaks in a foreign language???
What century are we in again? I had to laugh that in season 2 of The Boys, some french dialogue came up in french subtitles I need English subtitles as I have hearing loss and my hearing aids don't compensate enough. This is recent movie!!! I had to stop watching after about 15 minutes!!!!
I tried everything turn on larger etc etc, finally I just turned off subtitles.. I have no idea what is going on with Amazon and subtitles its a mess. Somehow I feel if you just buy or rent the film, this "issue" would go away.. Welcome back to the forum, and thanks for sharing that helpful information. Amazon Prime Japan for English speaking users is quite frankly appalling. The operating system has an option to change to English but it changes almost nothing to English.
Japanese shows occasionally have English subtitles. Non-Japanese foreign shows almost never have English subtitles. English shows have no option for English subtitles even when there are people speaking in another languages during the show. Netflix can manage to put English subtitles on their programs in Netflix Japan and even an English operating system, why is it impossible for Amazon Japan to do the same? You obviously have English subs already made as you show almost all of these same shows in England and America and other English speaking countries.
Our apologies for the experience you're having streaming in Japan. That's certainly not what we want for our customers. We're always striving to improve our customer experience, and your input is valuable to us. What I find odd is that so many movies on Amazon Prime simply do not have available subtitles.
Even English itself on English speaking movies. Which means also that a lot of customers with hear impairing conditions do not have access to a vast pool of quite good movies selection.
They are many and would be impossible to list them all here however I noticed it usually happen with movies from the 80ies and earlier. Still, I found surprising that Netflix manages to provide subtitles and in multiple languages also on old movies which clearly shows a better service and customer care as well as inclusiveness.
Can anyone from the staff explain the anomaly? Is a real pity as the pool of choice on Amazon Prime is good and one might miss on so many movies. I find lots of post about how to turn the subtitles on, but not really addressing the topic of those subtitles not being available in the first place.
I personally am among those who always watch a movie in original language and I turn on the subtitles to match the language I am hearing to ensure I am capturing all the words correctly. In the long run this might affect the decision if to keep the subscription or not. This is a good show with a complex plot. I can only understand the English parts now. Very frustrating!!! Welcome to the forum and thank you for reaching out to us. You're correct, how a series is added, edited or removed has to do with the licensing owners.
They are able to stream any version they'd like and can make changes without notifying us. We recommend leaving this feedback as it's an internal process that goes directly through your account. We look forward to hearing from you, and our apologies for the frustration. I ended up ditching my Roku device because Amazon was unwatchable for titles that had foreign languages Jack Ryan.
How a ticket hasn't been opened to fix the app at this point is beyond me. A new issue since I've switched to Nvidia Shield: English written words on the screen get foreign language subtitles without me having it on. English shows French on Buffy, which is probably because English and French. On The Expanse it defaults to German. Amazon engineers need to take this seriously. This is an app problem. Our apologies for the frustrating experience you're having with Prime Video subtitles.
Have you had a chance to leave us feedback in the Prime Video app, or reach out to us directly? If not, please do so using this link. This way we can access the device information and provide you with real-time support to investigate this. Yes Jen. I've been leaving feedback and providing detailed information for roughly 18 months now.
It's quite clear to me that Amazon either has no interest in solving this, and can't even take the time to understand what the problem is. Watching Green book last night. And small non English pieces in Russian and Italian. This is either a feature issue or a bug. Where a film is in a language, that is your default language, and there are lines in the film that are not that language, It should load a subtitle file for that by default. But nope.
Have you had the chance to reach out to us so we can access the device information and investigate this with you further? If not, please contact us using this link. I felt I missed most of what made my movie interesting. What title are you having the embedded subtitle issue with? We recommend the basic troubleshooting steps to help eliminate common errors that can happen while streaming Prime Video. If those don't help however, in order to get this to the proper team for investigation, we recommend contacting us directly using this link.
My Issue is the same. Apparently, Amazon Prime ignores the finer details when delivering video content. I am watching "The Missing" and from time to time there is French dialogue and no English subtitles appear to translate. There are no English subtitles from the 22 different foreign subtitles to choose from. I can watch this Series from the Prime Video app on an Android phone or Windows 10 computer and the subtitles work automatically.
However, from the Firestick 4k where I normally watch prime movies, I can not find or use English subtitles for this series.
